About the audition
A television commercial casting tests whether you can communicate a simple product story naturally and precisely on camera. The casting team is looking for an appropriate brand tone, a direct connection with the intended audience, clean product handling and the ability to offer useful variations quickly.
How to prepare
- Identify the intended viewer, the key product message and the emotional turn in the script.
- Practise the copy as a real thought directed to one specific person.
- Rehearse any product action slowly before combining it with the words.
- Prepare distinct changes in pace, warmth and energy without altering approved claims.
- Check the casting brief for wardrobe, framing and conflicts before attending.
Common mistakes
- Using a broad presentational voice instead of speaking to a believable person.
- Covering the product label or changing hand positions between takes.
- Adding claims or changing approved wording to make the line easier.
- Giving several takes that differ only slightly after a request for variation.
