About the audition
A radio advert voice acting audition asks you to create a complete, persuasive moment using only your voice. Producers listen for clear interpretation of the copy, natural connection with one listener, accurate timing and pronunciation, steady microphone control and responsive changes between takes.
How to prepare
- Mark the listener, key message, thought changes and call to action in the copy.
- Practise clean consonants and supported breath without flattening natural speech.
- Time several interpretations and make space by clarifying emphasis and pauses.
- Check unfamiliar names or technical words with the casting contact rather than guessing.
- Rehearse contrasting reads such as intimate, playful and authoritative while keeping the words exact.
Common mistakes
- Using a generic announcer voice that hides the meaning of the copy.
- Racing every word to solve a timing problem.
- Changing approved wording or guessing an uncertain pronunciation.
- Moving around the microphone and creating uneven volume or unwanted noise.
