About the role
A graduate core network interview checks whether you can reason about subscriber registration, authentication, session setup and traffic paths at a useful level. The panel does not expect deep vendor expertise, but it does expect careful use of alarms and traces, respect for change control and honest, structured learning.
How to prepare
- Review the difference between radio access, transport, control-plane signalling and user-plane traffic.
- Practise explaining subscriber registration and data-session setup as ordered stages.
- Study how identity, authentication, addressing and policy can each prevent a subscriber from getting service.
- Revise how to compare alarms and failure rates with the timing of a network change.
- Prepare an example of learning a complex technical system from several sources.
Common mistakes
- Reciting network-element names without explaining the service flow between them.
- Assuming that visible radio signal proves the core network is working.
- Changing a critical system while the cause and rollback trigger remain unclear.
- Hiding uncertainty instead of stating what evidence you would seek next.
