About the programme
A vocational training admission interview helps a training centre decide who will complete a course in a practical skill such as catering, fashion design, solar installation, hairdressing or ICT. The panel wants to understand your goals, your interest in hands-on work, how you will keep attending to the end and what you plan to do with the skill afterwards.
How to prepare
- Write down exactly what you want to do after the course, such as starting a business or getting a job.
- Work out how you will cover transport and time for the full course so you can answer commitment questions plainly.
- Speak to someone already working in the field so you know what the work involves day to day.
- Have a story ready about something practical you have already tried, even as a beginner.
Common mistakes
- Having no plan for after the course, which makes the panel doubt you will finish it.
- Choosing a course because a friend is doing it rather than because you want the skill.
- Ignoring practical barriers like distance or work hours and hoping the panel will not ask.
