About the programme
An early years teacher training admission interview assesses whether you understand how young children learn and whether you can keep their welfare at the centre of your decisions. The panel looks for thoughtful observation, safe professional judgement, purposeful play planning and respectful communication with children and families.
How to prepare
- Review how play can support language, early maths, movement and social development.
- Learn the difference between noticing and reporting a safeguarding concern and trying to investigate it yourself.
- Plan a short play-based activity and consider how you would include children with different needs.
- Think of an example where you responded patiently to a child's behaviour or feelings.
- Practise explaining children's learning in plain language to a parent or carer.
Common mistakes
- Describing play as a break from learning rather than a way young children learn.
- Promising secrecy when a child shares information that raises a safeguarding concern.
- Trying to diagnose a child's needs without observation or specialist input.
- Speaking about families as obstacles instead of partners in the child's learning.
