About the role
This interview tests how you would support an underwriting team on property, motor and other general insurance risks. The panel wants careful handling of proposal information, sound basic judgement, confidence with figures and clear communication when details are incomplete.
How to prepare
- Revise the purpose of proposal forms, sums insured, premiums, deductibles, exclusions and loss history.
- Practise checking a quotation against source information and explaining any discrepancy.
- Prepare an example of work where accuracy mattered and describe how you checked it.
- Review basic spreadsheet sorting, filtering and percentage calculations.
- Think through how you would prioritise new proposals, renewals and urgent broker requests.
Common mistakes
- Treating every risk as routine instead of identifying missing or unusual information.
- Guessing a premium or accepting inconsistent figures without checking them.
- Focusing only on speed while overlooking accurate records and clear referrals.
