About the role
This interview tests how you select and price property and casualty risks while protecting the quality of the wider book. The panel is looking for structured hazard analysis, sound use of policy terms, commercial judgement and clear conversations with brokers.
How to prepare
- Revise how construction, occupancy, protection and exposure affect a property risk.
- Prepare an example where loss history or survey findings changed your underwriting decision.
- Practise explaining the purpose of a deductible, sublimit, warranty and exclusion in plain language.
- Think through how you monitor accumulation and deteriorating performance across a portfolio.
- Prepare to defend a price or term change when a broker challenges it.
Common mistakes
- Treating premium volume as more important than exposure quality.
- Quoting before resolving material gaps in risk information.
- Listing hazards without connecting them to price, limits or conditions.
- Using technical policy language without explaining its practical effect.
