About the role
This interview tests your ability to keep telecoms sites powered through unreliable supply, changing loads and dispersed maintenance operations. The panel is looking for engineering depth across rectifiers, batteries, generators and hybrid systems, alongside strong energy and supplier control. Your answers should connect power decisions to network availability, safety and whole-life cost.
How to prepare
- Review site load assessment, direct-current plant, battery autonomy, generator sizing, changeover and alarm behaviour.
- Prepare an example where you found the real cause of repeated power outages rather than treating the symptom.
- Think through how climate, discharge history, maintenance and loading affect battery condition and replacement priority.
- Review methods for detecting abnormal fuel or energy use while allowing for genuine changes in utility supply and load.
- Prepare a comparison of conventional and hybrid power options using reliability and whole-life cost.
Common mistakes
- Replacing batteries from age or alarms alone without testing load, charging, temperature and connections.
- Reducing energy use in a way that removes necessary resilience or shortens equipment life.
- Comparing power options on purchase cost alone instead of reliability and whole-life cost.
- Accepting preventive maintenance completion as proof of effectiveness while outages repeat.
