About the role
A supply planner turns the demand signal into a plan that factories, suppliers and warehouses can execute. The interview explores how you balance customer service, capacity and inventory, especially when materials arrive late or production is disrupted.
How to prepare
- Map the steps from an approved demand plan to production, replenishment and deployment decisions.
- Prepare an example of resolving a shortage without creating unnecessary excess inventory.
- Review capacity, lead time, safety stock and lot-size settings and how each affects the plan.
- Practise ranking products when available capacity cannot meet every requirement.
- Be ready to explain how you track actions after a supply review.
Common mistakes
- Producing a plan without confirming material, labour and line constraints.
- Prioritising only by sales volume while ignoring customer commitments and shelf life.
- Changing system parameters without recording the reason or reviewing the result.
