About the role
This interview focuses on hands-on control of a building site from one shift to the next. The panel wants a manager who plans workfaces and deliveries, checks drawings and workmanship, maintains safe access, keeps accurate records and gives subcontractors unambiguous direction.
How to prepare
- Prepare a detailed example of planning labour, materials, plant and inspections for a busy workday.
- Review how you confirm that teams are using current drawings and approved materials.
- Think of a workmanship defect you caught before handover and explain the containment and correction.
- Choose an example of managing site logistics during rain, restricted access or overlapping deliveries.
- Practise describing what belongs in your site diary and what you escalate immediately.
Common mistakes
- Relying on verbal instructions without checking understanding or keeping a record.
- Allowing work to be covered before required inspections are complete.
- Confusing a busy site with a productive and controlled site.
- Leaving logistics and housekeeping until they obstruct work or create danger.
