About the role
This interview tests whether you can price and execute foreign exchange trades while protecting the bank from unmanaged market and conduct risk. The panel wants disciplined thinking under pressure, precise dealing practice and clear communication with clients and control teams.
How to prepare
- Practise explaining how size, liquidity, volatility, client value and hedging cost affect an FX quote.
- Prepare a trading example where the market moved against your initial view and you adjusted the position.
- Review your routine for pre-trade checks, deal capture, confirmations, limits and end-of-day review.
- Think through how you would handle thin liquidity without promising a price you cannot execute.
- Prepare to discuss performance in terms of decision quality and risk, not only profit.
Common mistakes
- Presenting conviction as certainty when markets can move for several competing reasons.
- Discussing profit without explaining position size, limit use and downside control.
- Delaying the escalation of a booking error or limit concern in the hope that it resolves itself.
