About the role
This interview tests how you build Java services that move card transactions safely through uncertain networks. The panel is looking for sound payment-domain knowledge, explicit trade-offs and evidence that you can own critical services in production.
How to prepare
- Map the card transaction lifecycle and identify where timeouts, retries, duplicates and late messages arise.
- Practise explaining idempotency, consistency and state transitions with a concrete payment example.
- Review Java concurrency, Spring Boot resilience patterns and testing at service boundaries.
- Prepare an incident example that shows your diagnosis, communication and prevention work.
- Be ready to discuss how you protect sensitive card data while keeping logs useful.
Common mistakes
- Treating a timeout as proof that a transaction failed.
- Using retries without an idempotency or deduplication strategy.
- Describing frameworks without connecting them to financial correctness.
- Ignoring reconciliation and operational recovery after the request path completes.
