About the role
This interview tests quality engineering for payment journeys where a small defect can create financial and customer harm. The panel will assess your coverage of asynchronous states, automation choices, defect evidence and judgement about release risk.
How to prepare
- Map the full payment lifecycle, including pending, reversal, refund and settlement states.
- Prepare examples of API automation and controlled test data.
- Review testing for duplicate requests, delayed callbacks, timeouts and provider errors.
- Practise writing a defect report with reproducible steps, evidence and financial impact.
- Think through what should block a payment release and what can be monitored safely.
Common mistakes
- Testing only the successful customer journey.
- Using unstable automation that depends on uncontrolled partner responses.
- Reporting symptoms without transaction references, timestamps or logs.
- Judging release readiness by test counts instead of risk.
