About the role

An entry-level RF planning interview focuses on how you turn terrain, demand and equipment parameters into a practical coverage plan. The panel wants you to understand the assumptions behind a prediction, catch weak input data and explain why a proposed site or antenna change should be validated in the field.

How to prepare

  1. Revise gains, losses, receiver sensitivity and margins in a basic radio link budget.
  2. Review how terrain, buildings and clutter affect propagation predictions.
  3. Practise reading coverage maps and distinguishing poor coverage from a capacity constraint.
  4. Study how antenna height, azimuth, mechanical tilt and electrical tilt shape a cell.
  5. Prepare to explain how drive-test or live-network measurements can validate a planning model.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a colourful prediction map as proof that service will work in the field.
  • Confusing a coverage gap with congestion caused by insufficient capacity.
  • Ignoring incorrect coordinates, antenna parameters or clutter data.
  • Recommending a new site without considering changes to existing cells first.
