About the role
This interview covers routine diagnostic imaging, radiation protection, image evaluation and compassionate patient handling. The panel wants a radiographer who can adapt technique to the patient, recognise an inadequate image and avoid unnecessary exposure.
How to prepare
- Review positioning and image criteria for common plain radiography examinations.
- Revise patient identification, pregnancy checks and radiation protection principles.
- Practise evaluating image quality and explaining when a repeat is justified.
- Prepare examples of helping a patient with pain, anxiety or limited mobility.
- Check the relevant official professional body's current registration and practising requirements.
Common mistakes
- Focusing on image quality without discussing patient condition or radiation exposure.
- Repeating an image automatically before judging whether it is diagnostically useful.
- Using technical terms without explaining the examination to the patient.
