About the role
This interview covers the clinical and operational responsibility of leading an imaging service. The panel will look for safe radiation practice, strong image quality judgement and the ability to coordinate people and equipment when urgent demand exceeds capacity.
How to prepare
- Review cases where you adapted positioning or technique for a complex patient.
- Prepare an example of reducing repeats or improving image quality across a team.
- Think through service continuity when a major imaging unit is unavailable.
- Check the official professional body for current practising licence and scope requirements.
- Be ready to explain how you challenge an unclear or unjustified request.
Common mistakes
- Focusing on image production without addressing justification and patient identity.
- Promising normal service during equipment failure without a workable contingency.
- Using repeat rates only to blame staff rather than identify causes.
