About the role
This interview tests whether you can take an AMI meter from safe installation through communication and data validation. The panel will look for disciplined fault isolation, an understanding of the meter-to-system data path and clear coordination with field and IT teams.
How to prepare
- Revise the AMI data path from the meter and communication network to the head-end and billing systems.
- Practise explaining a structured test for a meter that is powered but not communicating.
- Review common meter events, interval data exceptions and ways to confirm correct customer mapping.
- Prepare an example where you coordinated technicians and system teams to close a field defect.
- Review safe isolation, terminal inspection and post-installation verification steps.
Common mistakes
- Treating every communication failure as a faulty meter without checking the full data path.
- Discussing data quality without explaining how readings are matched to the correct customer and device.
- Skipping isolation and verification controls when describing work on energised metering points.
