About the role
This is a senior technical interview about modelling an interconnected power system and turning study results into dependable network decisions. The panel is assessing the quality of your assumptions, your command of steady-state and dynamic studies, and your ability to communicate uncertainty without hiding behind software output.
How to prepare
- Refresh load flow, contingency, short circuit, motor starting and stability study concepts relevant to the advertised network.
- Prepare to explain how you validate network models, demand forecasts and equipment parameters.
- Compare typical remedies for voltage, thermal, fault level and stability constraints, including their operating trade-offs.
- Choose a study where your recommendation influenced a connection, reinforcement or operating limit.
- Practise describing technical uncertainty and sensitivity results in language suitable for an investment panel.
Common mistakes
- Quoting software results without explaining the model boundary, assumptions or validation checks.
- Proposing reinforcement before considering operational measures and credible future scenarios.
- Treating a single demand forecast as certain rather than testing sensitivities.
- Giving senior stakeholders detail without a clear recommendation or statement of risk.
