About the role
This interview is for a manager responsible for protecting people, vessels and the environment during marine operations. The panel is looking for practical risk judgement, command during incidents and evidence that you can make a safety management system work in the field. Strong answers connect standards and procedures to actual barriers, behaviours and follow-through.
How to prepare
- Review the critical controls used in bunkering, lifting, enclosed space entry and maintenance work.
- Prepare an incident investigation example that shows evidence gathering, causal analysis and action tracking.
- Think through your first response to a serious marine incident when facts are incomplete.
- Prepare examples of challenging an unsafe plan and gaining operational support for a safer approach.
- Review the indicators you use to detect weak safety performance before harm occurs.
Common mistakes
- Quoting procedures without explaining how you verify that controls work at the job site.
- Judging safety performance only by the absence of injuries.
- Stopping at worker error instead of examining supervision, planning and system conditions.
- Promising zero risk instead of showing proportionate and defensible decisions.
