About the role
A junior manufacturing engineer in plastics helps keep moulding or forming processes stable, safe and capable of producing acceptable parts. The panel will test how you connect material preparation, settings, tooling and defects. Strong answers change one factor at a time and protect approved process limits.
How to prepare
- Review the main stages of the plastic process most relevant to the role, including material preparation and cooling.
- Learn common defects such as short shots, flash, warpage, sink marks and contamination.
- Prepare a project where you adjusted a process and verified the result.
- Practise explaining why controlled trials are better than changing several settings together.
- Review safety around hot surfaces, pressure, moving platens and purging.
Common mistakes
- Changing several parameters at once and losing evidence of what solved the defect.
- Assuming every defect is caused by the machine rather than checking material and tooling.
- Suggesting adjustments outside an approved window without review or verification.
