About the role
A junior maintenance engineer helps keep high-volume manufacturing equipment safe and reliable through planned work and disciplined breakdown response. The panel will look for sound mechanical or electrical reasoning, awareness of production pressures and refusal to bypass protection. Good candidates also learn from repeat failures rather than settling for repeated quick fixes.
How to prepare
- Revise planned maintenance, condition checks, lubrication and basic fault isolation.
- Prepare a fault diagnosis example with the symptom, possible causes, tests and result.
- Think through how to prepare parts and tools before a short maintenance window.
- Review safe isolation and why guards and interlocks must remain effective.
- Practise explaining a technical delay to a production supervisor in plain language.
Common mistakes
- Restarting equipment repeatedly without finding why it trips.
- Arriving at planned work without the required parts, tools or task scope.
- Agreeing to bypass a safety device to protect the production target.
