About the role
A frontline team lead supervises staff who serve customers directly, in a call centre, branch, store or field team. You plan shifts, track daily targets, coach your team and handle the escalations they cannot. The panel is deciding whether you can hit targets while keeping your team motivated and customers happy.
How to prepare
- Prepare an example of a team member you coached and how their performance changed.
- Be ready to explain how you plan shifts when people are absent or traffic delays the morning team.
- Think of a customer escalation you handled and how you calmed it down.
- Gather figures from your past team, such as targets met and complaints reduced.
- Prepare an answer about leading people who were your peers before you were promoted.
Common mistakes
- Describing yourself as the best performer instead of showing how you lift others.
- Having no clear approach to a team member who keeps missing targets.
- Talking about customers and forgetting the team behind the service.
