About the role
A copywriter writes words that persuade, from adverts and social posts to emails, websites and scripts. You work from briefs, write in the brand's voice, understand the audience and edit hard. The panel is deciding whether your writing gets people to act and whether you work well with designers and clients.
How to prepare
- Choose a few pieces of your best copy and be ready to explain the audience, the goal and the result.
- Study the company's current ads and posts and note the voice they use.
- Prepare an example of copy you cut down or rewrote after feedback.
- Practise writing short headlines for one of the company's products in different tones.
- Think about how you write for Nigerian audiences without falling into cliches.
Common mistakes
- Showing clever lines that do not match the brief.
- Not knowing the brand voice of the company you are applying to.
- Taking edits personally instead of seeing them as part of the job.
