About the role
An associate creative director for copy helps lead the verbal direction of campaigns and raises the standard of a writing team. The panel will look for strong ideas, precise copy, thoughtful direction of other writers and confidence when presenting work to clients and senior colleagues.
How to prepare
- Choose campaigns that show how one verbal idea worked across several channels.
- Prepare an example of directing a writer through a difficult revision.
- Revisit how you turn audience insight and a proposition into a creative platform.
- Practise explaining why a headline or script answers the brief in plain language.
- Prepare a case where client feedback improved the work and one where you challenged it constructively.
Common mistakes
- Presenting polished lines without explaining the strategic idea behind them.
- Claiming sole credit for work produced by a wider creative team.
- Treating feedback as interference instead of identifying the real concern.
- Focusing on your own writing while giving little evidence of team leadership.
