About the role
A consumer insights assistant helps organise research, analyse behaviour and explain what findings mean for brands and campaigns. The interview tests whether you can combine different evidence, recognise limitations and move from observation to a useful insight. The panel also wants clear communication for colleagues who may not be researchers.
How to prepare
- Practise separating an observation, an insight and a recommendation using one consumer example.
- Review how sample size, question wording and collection method can affect a finding.
- Prepare an example of finding a pattern in survey, sales or interview information.
- Create a simple slide that states the message first and then shows the supporting evidence.
- Think of alternative explanations you would check before linking a campaign to a behaviour change.
Common mistakes
- Repeating a data point without explaining why it matters.
- Treating what consumers say as a complete explanation of what they do.
- Hiding a weak sample or conflicting evidence to make the story cleaner.
- Filling slides with detail while leaving the main message unclear.
