About the award
A climate innovation challenge final tests whether a promising idea can create credible environmental benefits in practice. Judges look beyond the concept to the evidence, measurement choices, adoption barriers and possible trade-offs that come with wider use.
How to prepare
- Define the climate problem narrowly and connect it to the people, systems and locations your solution serves.
- Separate results from completed tests from benefits that are still expected.
- Choose impact measures that track environmental change rather than only participation or distribution.
- Map the practical barriers to adoption, including cost, maintenance, skills, power and connectivity.
- Consider waste, rebound effects and unequal access when explaining how the solution could scale.
Common mistakes
- Using broad climate claims that are not connected to the solution's actual reach.
- Treating a prototype demonstration as proof of long-term impact.
- Ignoring who will pay for upkeep after an initial trial.
- Claiming the solution has no environmental or social trade-offs.
