About the role
A building maintenance supervisor turns service requests and preventive tasks into safe, completed work across several trades. The panel will assess how you diagnose faults, assign and supervise technicians, control materials and communicate disruption to building users.
How to prepare
- Prepare examples of faults you diagnosed across electrical, plumbing or mechanical building systems.
- Review how you rank emergency, corrective and preventive jobs at the start of a shift.
- Be ready to explain isolation, permit and work-area controls for hazardous maintenance tasks.
- Think of a time you coached a technician or corrected poor workmanship.
- Review how you record faults, labour, materials, repeat visits and final checks.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the first apparent fix without checking the likely root cause.
- Treating an urgent repair as permission to bypass isolation or permit controls.
- Closing jobs from a technician's message without inspecting or testing the result.
- Giving occupants no warning about access needs or service interruption.
