About the role

An agricultural laboratory assistant receives and prepares samples and supports routine tests on materials such as soil, water, plants or feed. The panel is assessing accuracy, traceability, contamination control and safe laboratory behaviour. Strong answers show respect for written methods and honest escalation when a label, control or result is questionable.

How to prepare

  1. Revise sample receipt, labelling, storage, preparation and disposal for common agricultural materials.
  2. Practise explaining how you would follow a written method and record units, observations and calculations.
  3. Review basic contamination controls, equipment checks and the purpose of blanks, standards or control samples.
  4. Prepare an example of finding and correcting an error without hiding it.
  5. Refresh safe responses to spills, broken glass, chemical exposure and incorrectly stored materials.

Common mistakes

  • Testing a sample when its label or condition is uncertain.
  • Reporting a result despite a failed control or incomplete equipment check.
  • Changing observations to make them look more consistent.
  • Describing safety equipment without explaining the correct response to a spill or exposure.
