About the role
This interview tests how you turn a rapid field assessment into safe emergency water, sanitation and hygiene services. The panel will look for practical judgement, public health awareness, inclusive community engagement and clear coordination under pressure.
How to prepare
- Review how you would assess water quantity, quality, access, sanitation and hygiene risks at a new site.
- Prepare an example of adapting a WASH activity after community feedback or changing field conditions.
- Practise explaining the controls needed for water trucking, chlorination, storage and distribution.
- Think through how you would include women, children, older people and people with different access needs in facility design.
- Prepare a concise example of coordinating a gap or referral with another response team.
Common mistakes
- Starting construction before checking public health priorities and community access.
- Treating hygiene promotion as message delivery without listening to barriers and practices.
- Ignoring maintenance, waste disposal or the safe closure of temporary services.
- Giving technical answers that do not address protection and accessibility.
