About the role
This interview tests your ability to design, test and restore fibre networks while maintaining reliable records. The panel is looking for correct interpretation of optical measurements, attention to installation quality and a calm restoration method when several services share a damaged cable.
How to prepare
- Revise optical loss budgets and the expected effects of connectors, splices, bends and distance.
- Prepare an example where test results helped you locate and confirm a fibre fault.
- Review acceptance checks for joints, closures, ducts, aerial cable and labelling.
- Think through traffic priority, spare-core use and communications during a major cut.
- Practise reading an optical time-domain reflectometer trace and explaining its limitations.
Common mistakes
- Treating a reflectometry trace as conclusive without checking from the other end or measuring power.
- Ignoring spare capacity and future joints in the optical budget.
- Restoring traffic without updating core allocation and splice records.
