About the role

A video editor turns raw footage into a finished story, choosing what to keep, setting the pace and cleaning up sound and colour. You also manage files and deliver the right formats on time. The panel is deciding whether you can tell a clear story in the edit and work reliably with a team.

How to prepare

  1. Pick a short reel of your best work and be ready to explain the choices behind each piece.
  2. Prepare to talk about a project where the footage was weak and how you saved it in the edit.
  3. Review how you organise files, back up projects and hand them over to others.
  4. Think about how you take notes from a producer or client and work them into the next cut.
  5. Be ready to explain how you plan around power cuts and slow internet when deadlines are tight.

Common mistakes

  • Focusing on effects and software instead of story and pacing.
  • Having no clear system for files and backups.
  • Showing a long reel with your best work buried in the middle.
