About the programme
This interview tests whether your interest in veterinary medicine is informed by more than affection for animals. The panel looks for awareness of animal welfare, scientific study, communication with owners, public health responsibilities and the emotional and practical demands of the profession.
How to prepare
- Reflect on animal care, farm, shelter, laboratory or clinical experiences and what each taught you about the profession.
- Review broad animal welfare principles and how veterinary decisions may involve competing concerns.
- Prepare to discuss the links between animal health, food systems, infection and human health.
- Think of a time you received difficult feedback or coped with an upsetting outcome.
- Practise discussing financial limits compassionately without making assumptions about an owner.
Common mistakes
- Saying only that you love animals without showing knowledge of veterinary work.
- Treating an owner's financial limits as a moral failing.
- Ignoring public health, farm practice or other work beyond companion animal clinics.
- Describing distressing experiences in graphic detail instead of reflecting on what you learned.
