About the programme
A medical school admission interview helps the panel decide whether you understand what a career in medicine involves and have the qualities it needs. They look at your motivation, ethical thinking, empathy, ability to cope with pressure and readiness for the science.
How to prepare
- Reflect on what drew you to medicine and be ready to explain it with real experiences.
- Learn about the realities of medical training and work, including long hours and difficult moments.
- Read about common ethical topics in medicine such as consent and confidentiality.
- Think of a time you supported someone going through a hard time and what you learnt.
- Review your science subjects, as the panel wants to see you are ready for the course.
Common mistakes
- Saying you want to help people without explaining why medicine in particular.
- Taking a hard, one-sided position on ethical topics without weighing other views.
- Painting medicine as glamorous and ignoring its demands.
