About the award
A university coding hackathon final combines a live product demonstration with questions about how the team built it. Judges want to see a useful working core, sound technical choices, sensible testing, calm recovery from faults and a clear account of each student's contribution.
How to prepare
- Rehearse the shortest path through the product that proves the core feature works.
- Review the architecture and be ready to explain why each major technology was chosen.
- Identify the tests that protect the most important behaviour and the gaps still left.
- Prepare screenshots or a local build in case connectivity or an external service fails.
- Use the Git history to confirm who built each part and how the team handled integration.
Common mistakes
- Demonstrating many incomplete features instead of one reliable end-to-end flow.
- Naming tools without explaining why they suited the problem and time available.
- Claiming the code is fully tested while being unable to describe a meaningful test.
- Speaking only as a group so judges cannot identify individual contributions.
