About the role
This interview is about leading safe, risk-based maintenance across overhead transmission corridors and remote field sites. The panel is looking for practical knowledge of line defects, disciplined work control, effective use of scarce outages and calm coordination during faults and access problems.
How to prepare
- Review common conductor, insulator, fitting, tower, foundation, earthing and vegetation defects and how their urgency differs.
- Prepare an example where inspection evidence led you to change maintenance or impose a temporary control.
- Think through safe work at height, earthing, induced voltage, weather limits and communication with system control.
- Plan how you would combine several defect scopes into a constrained outage window.
- Prepare a case involving contractor quality, difficult access or community concerns along a line route.
Common mistakes
- Ranking defects by appearance alone without considering failure consequence and deterioration rate.
- Assuming an isolation removes every electrical hazard on a transmission corridor.
- Planning more work than crews can safely complete within the confirmed outage.
- Treating access and community issues as an afterthought once crews have mobilised.
