About the role
This interview covers the control and concentration expected from a camera operator in a live or recorded multi-camera studio. The panel wants to hear how you maintain framing and focus, match the other cameras, follow gallery cues and move safely around presenters, sets and cables.
How to prepare
- Choose two studio productions and be ready to explain your assigned shots, cues and camera movements.
- Review your checks for pedestal balance, focus, zoom, tally, talkback, cables and return video before rehearsal.
- Practise describing how you match headroom, eyelines, shot sizes and exposure across several cameras.
- Prepare an example of recovering when a presenter, guest or running order departed from rehearsal.
- Think through how you report a technical or safety concern to the floor manager and gallery under time pressure.
Common mistakes
- Listing camera models without explaining how you frame, focus and follow cues during a programme.
- Watching only your viewfinder and missing changes in the studio or running order.
- Moving a pedestal before checking the path, cables and people nearby.
- Treating your assigned shot in isolation instead of matching the wider multi-camera sequence.
