About the audition
This audition helps a showcase producer judge whether your material and delivery will work in a particular live room. They are listening for an original comic voice, sound audience judgement, controlled timing and the ability to recover when a set changes or a joke misses.
How to prepare
- Shape a complete short set with a clear opening, strong transitions and a deliberate closing line.
- Check every joke against the audience and content guidance supplied by the organiser.
- Practise adjusting the set to a shorter running time without rushing the delivery.
- Rehearse how you will respond to silence or an interruption without blaming the audience.
Common mistakes
- Explaining that material is funny instead of showing a clear premise and point of view.
- Using offensive material without considering the stated audience or content limits.
- Arguing with the audience when a joke does not land.
- Running past the agreed slot because the set has not been timed.
