About the role
A civil site engineer turns drawings into a finished structure on the ground. You set out the works, supervise contractors, check quality, track materials, keep the site safe and report progress to the project manager. The panel is deciding whether you can keep work accurate, safe and on schedule.
How to prepare
- Prepare one or two projects you worked on, with your exact role, the scale and what you were responsible for.
- Be ready to explain how you set out a building or road from drawings and check your work.
- Review common quality checks, such as concrete tests, reinforcement checks and levels.
- Think about how you deal with a contractor whose work does not meet the specification.
- Prepare to talk about managing delays from rain, late materials or price changes.
Common mistakes
- Describing the project team's work as your own without making your role clear.
- Treating site safety as someone else's job.
- Giving no real example of a problem you solved on site.
