About the role
This interview tests how you assess complex oil and gas operations and turn technical evidence into sound underwriting decisions. The panel will look for disciplined pricing, careful use of capacity, clear policy terms and credible conversations with brokers, engineers and reinsurers.
How to prepare
- Review how you evaluate risk surveys, loss histories, maintenance controls and business interruption exposures.
- Prepare an example of setting or defending a deductible, limit, warranty or exclusion on a difficult risk.
- Revise how accumulation and reinsurance capacity affect individual underwriting decisions.
- Practise explaining a decline or restricted offer to a broker without hiding behind technical language.
- Choose an underwriting decision you would change and explain what you learnt from it.
Common mistakes
- Focusing on premium without explaining the underlying hazards and loss scenarios.
- Treating reinsurance capacity as an afterthought.
- Giving firm terms before identifying missing or unreliable risk information.
