About the role
This interview is for a senior writer who helps developers understand and use a software platform. The panel will look for precise technical investigation, clear task-based writing and sound decisions about documentation structure. They will also test how you influence engineers and product teams when source material is incomplete or inconsistent.
How to prepare
- Choose two documentation projects and explain the user problem, your research, your writing decisions and the result.
- Practise explaining how tutorials, task guides, conceptual pages and references serve different needs.
- Review how you validate code samples, API behaviour and release details before publication.
- Prepare an example of handling difficult editorial feedback or conflicting technical input.
- Think through how you would audit an ageing documentation set and set priorities for improvement.
Common mistakes
- Treating polished prose as a substitute for testing the product behaviour.
- Describing documentation tools without explaining the user need behind your choices.
- Blaming engineers for gaps instead of showing how you find and verify the facts.
