About the role
This interview tests senior-level process engineering for oil and gas facilities, from design basis through safeguarding and operating support. The panel wants to see sound technical reasoning, careful treatment of uncertain inputs and the ability to spot and resolve problems across discipline boundaries.
How to prepare
- Review material and energy balances, separation, pressure drop and equipment sizing principles.
- Prepare an example involving relief, blowdown, isolation or emergency shutdown design.
- Practise explaining the assumptions and checks behind one substantial calculation.
- Review how process documents connect, including narratives, data sheets, line lists and piping drawings.
- Prepare an example of resolving a late technical change with other disciplines.
Common mistakes
- Quoting software results without showing the assumptions, checks or engineering judgement behind them.
- Sizing only for the normal case and overlooking start-up, shutdown or upset conditions.
- Listing safeguards without connecting them to credible hazards and failure cases.
- Failing to reconcile conflicting information across process documents.
