About the role
This interview tests senior midwifery judgement across labour, birth, newborn transition and early postnatal care. The panel wants prompt recognition of risk, respectful advocacy for women and evidence that you can raise the standard of less experienced colleagues.
How to prepare
- Review maternal and newborn warning signs and your escalation pathway for each.
- Prepare a case where you recognised a changing labour pattern and acted early.
- Practise explaining options and consent during a stressful clinical situation.
- Think through how you challenge disrespectful care and support improvement afterwards.
- Check the official Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria site for current licence and professional requirements.
Common mistakes
- Waiting for a doctor before starting action within the midwife's competence.
- Describing consent as a signature rather than an informed conversation.
- Correcting a junior colleague without checking whether the patient is safe first.
