About the role
This interview covers safe care before, during and immediately after birth. The panel wants a midwife who monitors closely, identifies emergencies early, works within escalation pathways and protects the mother's consent, dignity and confidentiality.
How to prepare
- Review maternal and fetal observations across antenatal care, labour and the postnatal period.
- Practise structured responses to major bleeding, seizures and a newborn who needs immediate support.
- Prepare an example of supporting informed choice or communicating with an anxious family.
- Refresh labour documentation, infection prevention and safe handover.
- Check the official midwifery regulator for current registration and licence requirements.
Common mistakes
- Delaying escalation while an obstetric emergency develops.
- Describing procedures without addressing consent, privacy or reassurance.
- Forgetting to monitor and document both maternal and fetal wellbeing.
