About the role
A senior line producer converts a creative plan into a production that can be staffed, scheduled, financed and delivered. This interview focuses on budget ownership, scheduling, crew and supplier management, and calm decisions when conditions change. The panel wants precise examples that show both financial control and respect for the creative goal.
How to prepare
- Revisit a production budget you owned and note how the estimate, commitments and final forecast changed.
- Prepare a scheduling example involving difficult locations, cast availability or technical dependencies.
- List the controls you use for purchase orders, petty cash, overtime and cost reporting.
- Think through a disruption you managed and the options you gave to producers and department heads.
- Prepare an example of a firm but fair negotiation with a crew member, facility or supplier.
Common mistakes
- Quoting a production's scale without explaining your own budget authority.
- Finding savings by simply cutting crew, safety provision or essential preparation.
- Reporting problems without presenting costed options and schedule consequences.
- Describing suppliers or creative colleagues as obstacles rather than production partners.
