About the role
This is a technical interview for an engineer responsible for dependable broadcast facilities and transmission paths. The panel will examine your understanding of signal chains, IP and baseband integration, synchronisation, monitoring and resilient power. They also want a disciplined troubleshooter who can lead incidents and introduce change without risking output.
How to prepare
- Practise drawing complete video and audio signal paths and identifying useful test points.
- Review synchronisation, embedded audio, routing, monitoring and common IP media faults relevant to your experience.
- Choose an incident where you isolated an intermittent fault and can explain the evidence in sequence.
- Prepare an upgrade example covering redundancy, testing, rollback, documentation and operator handover.
- Be ready to discuss power and cooling failures and how you prioritise services during reduced resilience.
Common mistakes
- Jumping to component replacement before tracing the signal and checking evidence.
- Describing redundancy without explaining how it is monitored and tested.
- Ignoring the operational risk created by maintenance during live output.
- Using unexplained acronyms when communicating an incident to non-engineers.
