About the role
This interview tests how you teach computing as a way of thinking, not simply as device use. The panel will look for accurate explanations, practical lessons that develop independent debugging, fair plans for limited technology and clear expectations for account security and responsible online behaviour.
How to prepare
- Revise how you would explain sequence, selection, iteration, variables and algorithms without jargon.
- Plan a coding task that asks pupils to predict output before running the programme.
- Prepare an unplugged alternative for a lesson affected by a power cut or missing devices.
- Think through questions that help a pupil locate a bug without taking over the keyboard.
- Review classroom expectations for passwords, personal data, sources and respectful online conduct.
Common mistakes
- Equating computer science only with using office software.
- Demonstrating complete code while pupils passively copy it.
- Taking control of a pupil's device before asking diagnostic questions.
- Ignoring account security because the class is under time pressure.
