About the role
A safeguarding manager helps an organisation prevent and respond to harm involving staff, partners and programme participants. The interview focuses on judgement, survivor-centred practice, confidential case oversight and the ability to make safeguarding part of daily operations rather than a policy exercise.
How to prepare
- Prepare examples that show how you assessed immediate risk and decided what information could be shared.
- Review how reporting routes can remain safe and accessible for children and adults in different communities.
- Think through your approach to partner due diligence, corrective actions and escalation.
- Prepare an example of challenging a powerful colleague or operational decision on safeguarding grounds.
- Be ready to explain how you measure whether training and prevention work are changing behaviour.
Common mistakes
- Promising absolute confidentiality when information may need restricted sharing to keep someone safe.
- Describing an investigation in a way that reveals identifying case details.
- Focusing only on policies and training instead of reporting access, leadership behaviour and programme design.
- Assuming every concern should follow the same response pathway.
