About the role
This interview tests whether you can support a quantitative study from questionnaire design through data checks and reporting. The panel is looking for sound basic methods, careful handling of participant information and an honest account of what the data can support.
How to prepare
- Revise sampling, variable types, descriptive statistics and common sources of survey bias.
- Practise describing how you would clean a small survey dataset without changing valid responses.
- Prepare an example of finding an error in data or calculations and correcting it.
- Review informed consent, confidentiality and secure handling of participant data.
- Practise explaining a table or chart in plain language without overstating the result.
Common mistakes
- Jumping into analysis before checking how the variables were collected and coded.
- Treating missing values or outliers as errors without investigating them.
- Claiming that an association proves cause and effect.
- Discussing participant data without explaining how you would protect confidentiality.
