About the audition
This audition tests whether you can help carry a live morning radio programme with warmth, pace and sound judgement. The panel is listening for a natural voice, genuine interaction with a co-host, relevant ideas for the audience and calm recovery when timings or plans change.
How to prepare
- Listen critically to several breakfast formats and note how presenters open, hand over and close a topic.
- Practise one-minute links built around useful local information and relatable morning experiences.
- Rehearse sharing airtime with a partner by listening, responding and handing the conversation back.
- Prepare ways to shorten, extend or replace a segment when the running order changes.
- Check the pronunciation of every name and place in your practice material.
Common mistakes
- Talking over a co-host or treating every exchange as a chance to deliver a punchline.
- Stretching a simple link until the programme loses pace.
- Repeating an online claim without checking its source.
- Sounding cheerful in a way that ignores the seriousness of the subject.
