About the audition

A children's TV presenter audition assesses whether you can inform and entertain young viewers while keeping their welfare central. The panel looks for clear age-appropriate language, playful but controlled delivery, sound safeguarding judgement and the ability to adjust quickly in a studio.

How to prepare

  1. Choose an age group and practise explaining everyday ideas in short, concrete sentences.
  2. Rehearse a game introduction with clear rules and a simple example.
  3. Review the production's safeguarding procedure and know who receives a concern.
  4. Practise changing your energy, pace or wording immediately after a direction.
  5. Prepare ways to recover when a cue, prop or demonstration does not work.

Common mistakes

  • Using a babyish voice or talking to children as though they cannot think.
  • Raising the energy by shouting instead of varying pace and expression.
  • Promising to keep a child's concerning disclosure secret.
  • Continuing an activity when a child is uncomfortable or wants to stop.
  • Freezing when a prop fails or a studio cue changes.
